First Class Renovation at SOBEYS Yonge and ST Clair Store!

October 27, 2010 - Updated: October 27, 2010

Sobeys finally unveiled their completely renovated store at 81 St Clair Avenue East recently. The re-construction, for the most part, took place over about a month with the store fully open for business, thankfully. Finally, on the night before the grand opening they brought in an army of people and completely transformed the store into the fresh new look.

The store now has a much more open feel to it and has added a larger deli counter, with a vast selection of cheeses plus an expanded bakery area offering wonderful breads and in-store baked goods. The only mild criticism is that they completely re-jigged the grocery section, moving things from one aisle to another which  is confusing to long-time shoppers at the store. They have also added more cashiers to help cope with the lunch time crowd and after-work rush, and expanded the in-house Wine Rack store. The only casualty really is the floral department, which has been significantly reduced in size, but is nonetheless a 'work in progress.'

A most welcome change to the Yonge and St Clair area, Sobeys opened their doors several years ago after another national chain, who claimed to be 'fresh obsessed' but were clearly not, closed their doors leaving  Loblaws' St Clair Market and Bruno's as the only neighbourhood supermarket choices. Originally open 24 hours, Sobeys decided a few months ago to reduce the store hours to 7am-11pm which, for most, is totally adequate. Hey, don't knock them, in these tough economic times, owners have to make these sort of business decisions every day in order to try and maintain a profit.

Having been mid town residents at Yonge and St Clair for over thirteen years, we certainly appreciate the ease and convenience of the Sobeys store with their helpful, friendly staff and ever-present, gracious owner-operator. The store, with ample underground parking is conveniently located on St Clair Avenue between Yonge Street and Mount Pleasant Road. "Thank you Sobeys for being there for us, and congratulations on your all-new store!
